Many of us remember that great scene in the movie, “My Cousin Vinny” where Marisa Tomei plays Mona Lisa Vito and says: “Well I hate to bring it up because I know you’ve got enough pressure on you already. But, we agreed to get married as soon as you won your first case. Meanwhile, TEN YEARS LATER, my niece, the daughter of my sister is getting married. My biological clock is [tap, tap, taps her foot] TICKING LIKE THIS and the way this case is going, I ain’t never getting married.”
For some of us women over 50, there seems to be another biological clock ticking — the internal need to do something even more meaningful with our lives. As the years start to fly by and all of a sudden we are 50, 55, 60+, and it hits us in the face – how much time do I really have left to do what I really want? We “hate to bring it up” to ourselves or others because it is scary, or we have somehow gotten comfortable and it will be too much effort and energy to pursue that different path. But our own foot is going tap, tap, tap. We feel something in our gut that is not right, not comfortable, and even though we may be able to ignore it for a while, it doesn’t go away.
That feeling, that voice, is trying to tell you something important. If you don’t listen to it now, then when? It is our spiritual biological clock that has always been inside of us, telling us we are here for a purpose. It is our job and our need to find our purpose and destiny. Maybe there’s a business you’ve been wanting to start, a book to write, even a change of lifestyle that you know would be healthier and more rewarding for you and your loved ones.
If you don’t listen to your inner voice, that clock will keep ticking, your foot will keep tapping. It’s up to you when you are ready to listen and respond, and when that time comes, our Discovery Programscan guide and support you. You may even find yourself tap-dancing and smiling away as you follow your path to deep happiness.
